The Glovebox Problem
For most cars in the UK, the service history is a stack of paper. The stamped booklet lives in the glovebox, the invoices live in a kitchen drawer, and the two have usually never met. Books go missing in house moves. Previous owners forget to hand them over. And if you order a replacement book from the manufacturer, it arrives blank, because a dealership cannot re-stamp work it did not do.
The cost of that missing paper is real. Kwik Fit surveyed more than 2,000 UK car owners and found that almost half would not consider buying a car with an incomplete service history, and those who would expected an average discount of 19% off the asking price. The paperwork in the drawer is worth real money. It is just in the wrong format to prove anything.
How It Works
Create a book for your car, photograph your records and upload them. Whole pages work better than close-ups, since the page around a stamp usually carries the date and the mileage. We read each document into records: the date, mileage, garage and work done, including handwritten stamps and entries. A typical batch is read in 30 to 90 seconds.
Then comes the step we think matters most: you confirm every record against the document it came from before it joins the book. Nothing joins your book on its own. Records we are less than 90 percent confident about carry a visible flag, so you know exactly where to look twice.
The uploader takes JPEG, PNG, WebP, iPhone HEIC photos and PDFs, up to 15MB each and 20 files at a time, with iPhone photos converted in your browser before upload. The support guide has the full detail, and there is a ten minute walkthrough if you want to see exactly what to photograph and how.
Any Evidence Counts
Real service histories are messy, so the book was built to take whatever evidence you actually have. Dealer stamps. Invoices from the independent garage that has looked after the car for years, which is the part of a car's history no manufacturer database holds. Receipts, job sheets, and the PDF invoices sitting in your email.
Parts invoices get their own treatment. If you service the car yourself, upload the receipts for oil, filters and brake pads, and each one becomes a parts purchase record with the supplier, date, items and cost read for you. Those records are labelled separately from garage services on the timeline, in the PDF and on the shared view, because a receipt proves you bought the parts, not that they were fitted. If you did the work, the book prompts you to add the matching service record alongside, and you can add any record by hand, clearly labelled as such.
Honest Evidence, Labelled That Way
A service book you built yourself is only worth something if it is honest about what it is, so every record carries its provenance: read from your document, added by hand, or edited. When you share the book, the page says plainly that the records were provided by the owner and are not manufacturer verified. That framing is deliberate. It is honest evidence, not verified evidence, and honest evidence with the invoices behind it is exactly what buyers say they want to see.
Privacy works the same way. Your uploaded photos are never shown to anyone you share the book with, location data embedded by your phone camera is stripped before upload, and the VIN is masked on the shared page.
