How It Works
Get your API key
API access is part of an approved trade account. Talk to us and we'll set up your key.
Send a VIN or reg
One authenticated request per vehicle, with your key in the x-api-key header.
Get structured records back
Each dealer service comes back with its date, mileage, the dealer that did the work and what was carried out, plus a link to the full ServiceStamp report.

Response Codes
You're only charged when records come back.

| 200 | Records found. Charged at your trade rate. |
| 202 | The manufacturer system is still processing. Retry after the Retry-After header. Not charged. |
| 204 | No manufacturer service records for this vehicle. Not charged. |
| 400 | Invalid VIN or registration. |
| 401 | Missing or invalid API key. |
| 429 | Too many requests. Slow down and retry. |
Pricing: Your Trade Rates, Per Lookup
API lookups cost the same as a Service History Check in your trade dashboard. Credit packs are used automatically, and credits are valid for 12 months.

No Records, No Charge
A lookup that finds no manufacturer service records costs nothing, exactly as it works for trade checks in the dashboard.
Retries Are Free
A "still processing" response is never charged. Call again when it's ready and you pay once.
What's Covered
The API returns manufacturer dealer service records for 39 brands, for cars from 2012 onwards. How much detail each record carries depends on the manufacturer.
Records come from manufacturer systems, so they show servicing carried out by franchised dealers. Work done by independent garages isn't held in those systems. The Service History Check page has the full coverage detail by brand.

Who can use the Service History API?
API access is available to approved ServiceStamp trade accounts. Talk to us about what you're building and we'll set up your API key.
Can I look up by registration as well as VIN?
Yes. Send either a UK registration or a 17-character VIN.
How quickly do results come back?
Lookups usually complete in a single call. If a manufacturer system needs longer, you get a 202 response with a Retry-After header. Call again after that, and you're only charged once.
What does the API cost?
Each lookup is charged at your flat trade rate: £3.99 pay as you go, or as little as £3.69 with a 100-check credit pack. A lookup that finds no manufacturer service records costs nothing.
Does the API include finance, write-off or stolen checks?
No. The API covers Service History Checks. Vehicle History Checks and the Full Check stay available in your trade dashboard.
Do API lookups show in my trade dashboard?
Yes. Every lookup appears in your trade dashboard alongside the checks you run there, so your whole team can see them.
Can I share the results with buyers?
Yes. Every response includes a report_url for the full ServiceStamp report, which you can share with a buyer or download as a PDF.
